It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear friend, colleague, and partner, Douglas H. Deems. As some of you may know, Doug had been struggling with his health for some time. His positive attitude and desire to be of service to others, even during these difficult days, touched and inspired us all. Doug’s dedication and commitment to clients and his colleagues has been an integral part of Claro’s success and growth. We will forever be grateful for his many contributions and we extend our most profound sympathy to his wife Deborah, daughters Kathleen and Maeve, and son Rory.

Doug was a one of the senior founders of The Claro Group. He wore many hats during his tenure, serving as our General Counsel, a member of the firm’s Board of Management, Managing Partner of our Los Angeles office, and a Managing Director who led client work in our Insurance Practice. Doug’s leadership, clear insight, dedication, and enthusiasm benefited his colleagues and clients immensely.

Prior to founding The Claro Group and in addition to his law firm experience, Doug was a Managing Director of LECG, LLC and a partner with Arthur Andersen. Among many other passions/pursuits, Doug was an avid Dodgers fan and enjoyed spending time with his family above all else.

All of us at The Claro Group will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Doug’s memory to support the research of Dr. Stephen Foreman, the oncologist at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center who guided Doug through his fight with cancer. Dr. Forman’s research is focused on finding a cure and treatments for Multiple Myeloma, the cancer that took Doug’s life. You may find a direct link to the Douglas H. Deems Foundation supporting Dr. Forman’s CAR T Cell Research here:
