Environmental Recovery Demand Resulting from World War II and Korean War Conflicts
The Claro Group was retained by a major oil and gas company to prepare an environmental cost recovery claim against the US Government related to Government involvement in facility operations during World War II and Korean conflicts. The claim demand was built upon the need and development of extensive knowledge of specific operations at each of the client’s refinery sites during the wartime years, environmental costs incurred at the site and allocation of those costs to specific years and areas of the site based on wartime uses. Senior Advisor, Amy Allen, managed development of the claim demand, including the allocations of environmental costs for recovery and development of the settlement report and supporting documentation.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory
Amy Allen was retained by an upstream oil and gas exploration company to evaluate the company’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory and prepare and submit a corporate response to the Carbon Disclosure Project, an international greenhouse gas reporting organization.
Develop Process for Handling Notices of Violation
Amy Allen was retained by an upstream oil and gas exploration company to develop procedures for the management of Certificates of Non-Compliance and Notices of Violation. This was a turn-key project that included meeting with multiple client stakeholders to define needs, develop a database to meet departmental and corporate needs, and training the employees on corporate procedures and use of the database.
MTBE Liability Exposure Analysis
The Claro Group was retained by a mutual insurance company representing clients in the energy industry to estimate potential future liabilities related to MTBE exposure. The review required identification of the potential population of claimants, estimated value of future claims, and allocation of costs.
Environmental Management Process Improvements
The Claro Group has been retained by a number of clients in the oil and gas industry to review and recommend areas of improvements to the clients’ environmental management processes, including environmental reserve forecasting, production of corporate environmental process documents, integration of environmental liabilities into the business plan and training environmental managers on reserve forecasting.
Under employment with a natural gas exploration and production company, Amy Allen developed and implemented environmental plans, procedures, and best management practices regarding air emissions, waste management, spill response and marine discharges. Amy Allen participated in site audits for compliance with domestic and international regulatory requirements, including EPA, OSHA, World Bank and International Finance Corporation guidelines.
