Brian Twellman is a Managing Director located in the Houston, Texas office. He is part of the firm’s Disputes, Claims and Investigations Consulting practice, which includes approximately 100 fulltime professionals dedicated to the preparation and resolution of major insurance claims and other complex financial disputes.

Brian has 20 years of experience advising and assisting clients with the evaluation, quantification, presentation and resolution of property, business interruption, excess liability, and pollution claims for insured businesses. Mr. Twellman has been the lead or co-lead on teams that have recovered collectively over $1 billion for their clients, many of whom are listed in the Fortune 500. Mr. Twellman has also developed financial models and statistical decision analyses to inform client decision-making in subjects involving uncertain liabilities, lost profits, contract disputes, fraud, and the value of insurance coverage.

Prior to The Claro Group, Mr. Twellman was part of the economic and financial consulting firm of LECG, and the Financial Advisory Services practice at Arthur Andersen.

Experience +

Hospital System—assisted client with all aspects of a claim for property repairs, contents, EDP preservation, extra expense, and business interruption in connection with damage from an EF-5 tornado. Claim included significant extra expense for temporary locations to mitigate business loss and negotiation for permanent replacement of services in multiple locations.

Hotel Company—assisted client with pollution claim for restoration costs and business losses resulting from Legionella bacteria water system damage and remediation. Impacted areas included gaming, hotel occupancy, food & beverage, and retail.

International Resort & Gaming Company—assisted client with on all aspects of a claim for property, extra expense and significant business interruption loss from Hurricane in connection with their Hotel/Casino Resort including gaming, hotel occupancy, food & beverage, retail, entertainment, and golf course losses.

Midstream Company—assisted client with claims related to an explosion and fire at a NGL processing/storage facility including facility rebuild costs, expenses to reduce loss and business interruption losses related to affected business interests upstream and downstream of the facility.

Motor Company--assisted Chief Restructuring Office in valuation and negotiation of financial assurance approach for non-dischargeable environmental liabilities. Employed decision-tree and unique portfolio approach for valuation of dozens of sites in portfolio, ultimately assisting client to reach agreement with multiple regulatory agencies to establish a $600+ mm nation-wide Trust, without litigation.

Offshore Production Company--assisted non-operating JV partner of an offshore natural gas production platform. Quantified damages for a delay in start-up and business interruption arising from a damaged subsea pipeline.

Oil Sands Mining and Refining JV—assisted JV owners of multi-billion dollar Alberta oil sands project in respect to quantification of a delay in start-up and associated lost profits claim and economic losses at downstream upgrader and refinery all arising from a fire at mine during one of the largest construction projects in Canada.

Power Generation Company—assisted client on all aspects of their insurance claim for recovery of property loss, extra expense and business interruption in connection with a flooded generating station.

Property Development Company—assisted client with claim for property damage, extra expenses, and delay-in-start up business losses resulting from Hurricane and storm surge damage to a luxury condominium project.

Refining Company—assisted client (and Bankruptcy Trustee) on all claim quantification, coverage and subrogation issues in connection with property damage, business interruption and extra expense claim resulting from a fire at refinery product loading rack.
