Overview –
Mr. Hansen is a Senior Advisor in our Houston office and was a co-founder of the firm at its formation in 2005. He was also Chair of the firm from 2017 through August 2019. Mr. Hansen is a specialist in valuation of assets, liabilities and exposures in the presence of uncertainty. His analysis has been utilized to inform management and support transactions and/or settlement of disputes totaling billions of dollars (in aggregate) for a broad range of issues, including: Illiquid asset/liability transactions; Insurance/Risk Management; Bankruptcy/Litigation; M&A transactions; and Capital Projects.
Prior to Claro and a brief tenure at a boutique economics firm, George oversaw the Western US Financial Advisory Services consulting practice at Arthur Andersen, comprised of more than 20 partners and 300 professionals focused on insurance claims, intellectual property matters, litigation support, economic consulting, and strategic valuation services.
Experience +Assisted Chief Restructuring Office of Motors Liquidation Corporation (successor to pre-petition GM) in valuation and negotiation of financial assurance approach for non-dischargeable environmental liabilities. Employed decision-tree and unique portfolio approach for valuation of dozens of sites in portfolio, ultimately assisting client to reach agreement with multiple regulatory agencies to establish a $600+ mm nation-wide Trust, without litigation.
Assisting national brine producer track and seek insurance recovery of multiple liabilities arising from a salt dome sidewall failure, including business loss, property damage, environmental damages, etc. Liabilities exceed $250 mm.
Assisted major US integrated oil company assess and value litigation risk in post-acquisition dispute relating to a product pipeline. Matter settled in part due to analysis.
Assisting independent E&P company pursue D&O coverage relating to reimbursement of defense costs relating to alleged FCPA and SEC claims.
Advised debtor in major healthcare bankruptcy matter in value of accounts receivables with face value exceeding $100 million. Identified and evaluated 3rd party service providers to pursue claims.
Advised Liquidating Trustee of a major fertilizer company bankruptcy regarding disposition of real estate and equipment in context of environmental cleanup obligations and potential liability.
Conducted numerous exposure analyses for asbestos and environmental liabilities in context of acquisition due diligence and insurance underwriting. Analyses typically utilize probabilistic disease-specific models based on prevailing scientific studies and/or modeling of alternative “worst-case “liability scenarios.
For a major integrated oil company and also a major downstream oil & gas company facing fraud and other claims relating to alleged double-recovery of UST Trust-Funds and insurance recoveries, developed comprehensive database of costs and reimbursements from Trust Funds for portfolio of retail marketing environmental cleanup sites. Incorporated data from dozens of data sources and formats. Reports are being used to support settlement discussions.
